To put it very simple. The last of us has an ok story with great character drama. Gameplay wise it's a third person shooter with some stealth mechanics but 0 ground braking ideias put in, it's all a means to push you to the next plot point. The lat of us part 2 has basically the same gameplay, with both some upgrades and downgrades from the Ellie is still a kid in the 1st game and we watch her childhood quickly get robbed from her as the storyline progresses which all comes to fruition during the Lakeside Resort chapter. A piece of her died in that fight. Plus having to save Joel's life, Ellie had to grow up too quick. The show is following the story of the game and from what we can tell so far it's following it extremely faithfully. So yes. Watching or playing one will spoil the story in the other.
